Episode Guide
How Survivor: Redemption Island unfolded, week by week.
- 1“You're Looking at the New Leader of Your Tribe”Feb 16, 2011Two big-name returnees, Boston Rob and Russell Hantz, headline a season built around a brand-new twist: Redemption Island, where the voted-out don't go home but get banished to a lonely island to duel for a way back in. Rob takes immediate command of Ometepe, while Russell's new tribe eyes him warily from across the water. Ometepe loses and turns on Francesca Hogi, who becomes the very first person ever sent to Redemption Island.
- 2“You Own My Vote”Feb 23, 2011Rob is already running Ometepe like a machine, but he decides his closest young ally has gotten a little too comfortable. Despite a final-four pact with Matt Elrod and Andrea, Rob quietly engineers a blindside, and Matt walks into Tribal with no clue it's coming. He's voted out and shipped to Redemption Island, stunned to be banished by the very alliance he trusted.
- 3“Keep Hope Alive”Mar 2, 2011Russell Hantz has spent the season making his new Zapatera tribe so nervous that they decide they want him gone badly enough to throw an immunity challenge for it. They tank the challenge on purpose, head to Tribal, and ship Russell off to Redemption Island. Out at the island the first duel goes down, and Matt beats Francesca, making her the first player eliminated from the game for good.
- 4“Don't You Work for Me?”Mar 9, 2011Phillip Sheppard's bizarre 'Specialist' persona and his made-up 'Stealth R Us' alliance keep Ometepe equal parts entertained and baffled, all while Rob quietly pulls every string. Ometepe loses, and Kristina Kell is sent to Redemption Island. There, Matt keeps his streak alive, beating Russell Hantz in a duel to send the all-time villain out of the game for good.
- 5“We Hate Our Tribe”Mar 16, 2011Zapatera is a mess of infighting, the old Russell loyalists clashing with everyone else, and the tribe can't get out of its own way. When they lose again, they turn on Krista Klumpp and send her to Redemption Island. Matt, meanwhile, just keeps on winning out at the island, beating Kristina in the latest duel to stretch his improbable run.
- 6“Their Red-Headed Step Child”Mar 23, 2011Zapatera keeps losing and keeps shedding the old Russell alliance, with Stephanie Valencia the next to feel the squeeze. She's voted out and sent to Redemption Island. Out at the duel, Matt stays perfect, knocking out Krista to keep his lonely streak going.
- 7“It Don't Take a Smart One”Mar 30, 2011With the merge looming, Zapatera debates whether to cut its weaker members or hang onto them, and the indecision costs them. Sarita White ends up the odd one out and is sent to Redemption Island. Matt, somehow still standing, beats Stephanie in yet another duel, an unreal streak from a guy who got voted out way back at the start.
- 8“This Game Respects Big Moves”Apr 6, 2011The merge arrives as Murlonio, and Redemption Island delivers its first re-entry: Matt finally wins his way back into the game, sending Sarita out for good in the process. His fairy tale lasts about a day. Rob doesn't trust him after Matt admits he'd weighed flipping, and at the very first merged Tribal, Matt is voted out all over again, 6-5-1, sent right back to Redemption Island in a gut-punch.
- 9“The Buddy System”Apr 13, 2011With the merge settled, Rob keeps his Ometepe six marching in lockstep and starts picking off the dangerous ex-Zapatera players. Mike Chiesl, a strong and well-liked threat, is exactly the kind of name Rob wants gone. Mike is voted out and sent to Redemption Island to join Matt, with no duel held this week.
- 10“Rice Wars”Apr 20, 2011Tensions over the rice supply boil over at camp, but Rob's grip on the vote never loosens for a second. David Murphy, one of the last real threats from the old Zapatera side, is sent to Redemption Island. In a three-way duel out at the island, Matt and Mike survive and David loses, becoming the first member of the jury as the endgame comes into view.
- 11“A Mystery Package”Apr 27, 2011A chaotic double-elimination night. First, a duel out at Redemption Island sends Julie Wolfe to the jury for good. Then a mystery package turns up in camp and triggers two back-to-back Tribal Councils: Ralph Kiser is voted out at the first, and after a surprise second immunity challenge, Steve Wright goes at the second, both shipped off to Redemption Island in one wild night.
- 12“You Mangled My Nets”May 4, 2011Rob keeps trimming his own numbers to reach the end alongside people he can beat, and this week Andrea Boehlke, a sharp young player he no longer fully trusts, is the target. Andrea is voted out and sent to Redemption Island. In a four-way duel out there, Mike wins a loved-ones reward, Matt and Ralph hang on, and Steve is the one eliminated for good, off to the jury.
- 13“Too Close For Comfort”May 11, 2011Rob's alliance is down to its core now, and Grant Mattos, his strongest remaining ally and a real challenge threat, has become too dangerous to keep around. Rob cuts him loose, and Grant is sent to Redemption Island. In the duel, Andrea wins for the first time and Matt and Mike advance, while Ralph Kiser loses and joins the jury.
- 14“Seems Like a No Brainer”FinaleMay 15, 2011Finale night, and Rob closes out the masterclass he's been building all season. Ashley Underwood is voted out and sent to her last duel, where Andrea wins the final Redemption Island showdown and storms back into the game, ending the runs of Matt, Grant, and Mike for good. Andrea's return is short-lived, though, as Rob's alliance votes her right back out. That leaves Rob, Phillip, and Natalie at Final Tribal, where Rob, on his fourth try, finally gets his crown, the jury handing it to him 8-1-0.
