Jack Nichting, a graduate student, was a socially adaptable Vokai who moved to Lairo after the swap. In Episode 7 the tribe's consensus target was Dean Kowalski.
But Kellee Kim secretly slipped Dean her about-to-expire idol, and Dean played it to nullify the votes against him — sending Jack home 'idoled out' at fourteenth as the first juror. He voted for Tommy.
His most remembered moment came earlier, in a conversation that had nothing to do with the game. After Jamal Shipman shared West African music and dance with the tribe, Jack casually called Jamal's buff a durag — a word that landed for Jamal as a microaggression loaded with stereotypes about Black men. Jack was immediately embarrassed, sought Jamal out privately to apologize, and asked how he could do better. The exchange became one of the most thoughtful discussions of race and privilege the show had aired, and rather than fracturing their bond it brought the two closer.
