Episode Guide
How Survivor: Survivor 42 unfolded, week by week.
- 1“Feels Like a Rollercoaster”Mar 9, 2022The new era kicks off with eighteen players across three tribes and a sober early jolt: medical pulls Jackson Fox from the game on Day 3 over a health-and-safety concern tied to a medication he'd recently stopped taking. With the season rattled before it really gets going, Beware Advantages and journeys send everyone scrambling. On Ika, Zach Wurtenberger reaches for a Shot in the Dark to save himself, but it comes up empty and he's voted out 5-0.
- 2“Good and Guilty”Mar 16, 2022Taku hits Tribal for the first time, and Maryanne Oketch, loud, emotional, and reading as a total wild card, looks like the obvious one to go. But Maryanne talks a mile a minute and wriggles her way to safety, steering the tribe somewhere else. When the votes drop, it's Marya Sherron heading home instead, her own Shot in the Dark falling flat.
- 3“Go for the Gusto”Mar 23, 2022Vati's vote turns into a full standoff. With Mike and Chanelle both stripped of their votes by advantage mechanics, the tribe deadlocks 2-2 and the revote stays knotted, putting a rock draw on the table. Nobody's willing to risk that, so a deal gets cut, and Jenny Kim is the one who ends up going home.
- 4“Vibe of the Tribe”Mar 30, 2022Ika has a call to make, and Swati Goel has quietly promised the same thing to too many people, telling several of them they're her 'number one.' The second the alliance compares notes, her web of overlapping deals falls apart on the spot. Swati plays a Shot in the Dark to save herself, but it misses, and she's voted out.
- 5“I'm Survivor Rich”Apr 6, 2022Vati is chaos again, the day before a swap, and the vote splinters into yet another tie. The deadlock comes down to Daniel Strunk and Chanelle, and on the revote Mike Turner flips his vote to break it. Daniel is blindsided and sent home just as the tribes are about to reshuffle.
- 6“You Can't Hide on Survivor”Apr 13, 2022This one's all setup and no execution. The tribes drop their buffs and regroup, and everyone assumes it's the merge, until Probst lets them sit in it for a beat and then clarifies they're not actually merged yet, just shuffled into a new arrangement with the individual game still around the corner. No torch gets snuffed tonight, but the advantage maneuvering and the scramble to nail down new numbers shifts into overdrive.
- 7“The Devil You Do or The Devil You Don't”Apr 13, 2022The new-era hourglass twist blows the night wide open: Rocksroy Bailey smashes the hourglass, reversing the immunity result and flipping which group is safe and which is suddenly exposed. Just like that, Lydia Meredith's side is vulnerable, and her own Vati allies, Mike and Hai among them, cut her loose. Lydia is voted out as the twist claims its target.
- 8“You Better Be Wearing a Seatbelt”Apr 20, 2022Now it's the real merge, the players coming together as Kula Kula over a feast with the jury phase officially open. Drea Wheeler digs up yet another advantage to stack her growing arsenal while the new tribe feels out its lines. When the first merge vote lands, Chanelle Howell is the one sent out as the first member of the jury.
- 9“Game of Chicken”Apr 27, 2022A double-elimination night, with the ten remaining players split into two groups of five for two separate Tribals. Hai and Jonathan grab the two immunities. At the first vote, Rocksroy Bailey gets caught on the wrong side and is sent out. At the second, Drea plays her idol to cover herself, which leaves Tori Meehan exposed, and Tori is voted out too, both of them off to the jury on the same night.
- 10“Tell a Good Lie, Not a Stupid Lie”May 4, 2022Omar Zaheer, the soft-spoken veterinarian quietly running the merge, pulls off his masterstroke. He tells Mike that Hai had called the firefighter his 'puppet,' a lie built to snap the tight Mike-Hai bond, and it works to perfection. Mike flips, the vote swings, and Hai Giang is blindsided to the jury.
- 11“Battle Royale”May 11, 2022The final-seven immunity is a grueling endurance 'battle royale' with a catch: the first to drop has to face Do or Die. Lindsay Dolashewich falls after a long standoff with Jonathan, draws the Do or Die boxes, and survives to win her safety. Meanwhile Drea Wheeler, sitting on a stack of advantages, lines up Knowledge is Power to steal Mike's idol, but Omar and Lindsay tip Mike off, he hands the idol to Omar, and Drea's big play grabs nothing. Exposed, Drea is voted out 5-3.
- 12“Caterpillar to a Butterfly”May 18, 2022Everyone assumes Omar is the brains of the whole game, and that reputation finally catches up to him. Maryanne Oketch, who's been hiding just how hard she's actually playing, springs her secret extra-vote advantage to engineer the blindside, and the presumed mastermind never sees it land. Omar is voted out, and Maryanne's coming-out party as a real player is suddenly impossible to miss.
- 13“It Comes Down to This”FinaleMay 25, 2022Finale night, and Maryanne's quiet game finally takes center stage. Lindsay Dolashewich is voted out at the final five, then Romeo Escobar wins the final immunity and chooses to bring Maryanne to the end, forcing a fire-making duel for the last seat where Mike Turner beats challenge beast Jonathan Young. That sets a Final Tribal of Maryanne, Mike, and Romeo, and there Maryanne pulls out a hidden idol she'd kept secret the entire game and walks the jury through the Omar blindside. They reward her in a near-sweep, 7-1-0, crowning Maryanne Oketch the Sole Survivor.
